Always put your cleaned, well-oiled tools away

My dad, Uncle Ralph, always told me, actually made me, put tools back where I found them. They also needed to be clean and well-oiled.

He told of the time he took the family car out for an evening. It must have been Spring because he got stuck in the mud some distance from the house and walked home. About the time he got into bed he heard Grandpa John call up, "That you Ralph?" "Yes." "Didn't hear the car come home." "No, I got stuck up by the corner." "Is that where you found it when you took it out?" "No." "Then go put the car back where you found it." So dad, in the middle of the night, hitched up the horses, went to the car, pulled it back home, and put it in the garage where he found it.

And then, he put the horses where he found them.
